About the Work
My work is reduction-fired stoneware, with a focus on large-scale functional forms. I love the artisanal challenge of making a really good ceramic piece—one that gets reached for and used, with depth and grace enough to take part in daily life.
I also love the earthy, ancient, feel of stoneware clay as a raw material. Unglazed regions of my forms reveal this love, and reveal the rugged texture of the clay itself—often, local material I've dug nearby. My work is a collaboration with the earth. Together we strive for beauty. Simple forms and quiet, subdued surfaces express my urge to create the kind of beauty that reveals itself with time, and renews itself with life—with everyday living.
