An internship at Green River Pottery studio-gallery in Santa Fe is an opportunity to learn about clay & creative practice - it's an immersion in the work of running a ceramics studio. Ideal if you have a little art or maybe even ceramics experience already - or just a desire to learn. The situation is part-time - usually a couple half-days per week. Lodging is not offered, and because you're fitting in to a small, busy, working studio, the internship is not ideal for if you're seeking studio space in exchange for labor. The emphasis is really on learning & gaining experience at an ever-changing variety of tasks.
Interns sometimes work on:
processing local clay & wood ash
assisting during ceramics classes
loading & unloading kilns
photographing finished work
packing & shipping
selling pots in the gallery
The list evolves & rotates depending on what you like doing, want to learn about, & what needs to get done. Yes, there is also time to pursue a set of skills or project of your own - try different claybodies, work up a new glaze recipe, perfect your teapot design.
The time frame is flexible. January & June are good, and three to six weeks works well - other times of the year are possible too. The hours can range from about six to twenty a week.
Feel free to contact the gallery to discuss! I look forward to being in touch.
