Handbuilding Survey

$425.00

This class explores three basic ways of working with clay: pinchpots, coil-building, and constructing forms from flat ‘slabs’.

The class will focus on the relationship between technique and creative expression. No previous experience with clay is required & this is a great first class here at our Green River studio. If you do have experience, seasoned students will also be challenged to develop and nurture personal “voice” as a maker.

Our teacher, Henry Grosman brings over fifteen years experience teaching design at the undergraduate and graduate level where he taught both beginning design and advanced research studios.

Class time will include demonstration, group discussion of work, and plenty of work time with occasional forays into the history of American Studio Pottery.

We’ll cover clay preparation, methods for making, surface design with slips & stains, glaze application. The class takes place in our A3 studio, working at cone 6, firing in the electric kiln.

Time: Wednesdays 10am - 12pm January 8 - February 26

Teacher: Henry Grosman

Cost: $425 includes clay, glaze, firing

Limit: 8 students
