Making & Understanding Glazes September 5 - October 24
We are delighted that Cameron has once again offered to teach a glaze formulation class here at Green River Pottery. Here’s your opportunity to learn glaze science, gain experience using on-line resources for research & calculation, practice adjusting & altering recipes.
We’ll meet for three hours on Friday mornings. Classes will include presentation of new material each week, followed by time to work on lab assignments together. So, each week, you’ll learn new concepts, discuss results of your latest glaze tests, and work hands-on with new glaze tests in a group setting.
An interactive, slightly-demanding, revelatory class that may remind you of your high school chemistry (yes we’ll discuss the first two columns of the periodic table) and also may deepen your connection to the alchemical mystery of ceramics.
No prior chemistry knowledge or glaze experience required, just remember you’ll get the most from this class with active participation and regular attendance. We will dive into science concepts, explore glaze testing methods together, and discuss (often unpredictable!) test results as a group, so come with curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to ask questions!
Note: we will not be covering techniques for glaze application such as layering, resists, or other design approaches.
Also note: by placing your order for this class, you're consenting to our Participation Guidelines & Liability Release form. Please take a moment to review this form before signing up. Thank you!
Teacher: Cameron
Time: Fridays 10am - 1pm, September 5 - October 24
Cost: $445 covers materials, 8 class meetings, plus access to the worktime calendar for independent work
Limit: 6 students
