Every summer for the past few years our geologists-in-residence, professors at Cal State Northridge and also avid New Mexicans, experienced field studies leaders, and clay enthusiasts, choose a couple expeditions for us to go on during a Saturday in June or July.

A slide talk precedes the Saturday expedition, the Friday evening before.

For 2026, we plan to visit the Harding Mine in the Embudo Valley (also La Chiripada Winery), and then a second expedition to the Chama River Valley to hike & prospect for micaceous clays.

Please let us know if you’d like to be notified as we post these field trip registrations - probably the first trip will take place June 27, and a second sometime mid-July. We’ll be back in touch when registration for these trips open & we have an idea of the cost for each slide talk & expedition.
